It was a centre of political and economic activity due to the presence of royalty and wealthy viceroys. The city is known for the music, film and art festivals and architecture. Bogotá is the capital of Colombia. It is located in the centre of Colombia, in the natural region known as the Bogotá savanna, which is part of Altiplano Cundiboyacense formation located in the Eastern Cordillera of the Andes. It is the main market of Colombia and the Andean natural region, and the leading destination for new projects of foreign direct investment coming into Latin America and Colombia. It is the city of Colombia with the largest number of universities and research centres, and has an important cultural offer, which is represented in many museums, theatres and libraries. Important landmarks and tourist stops in Bogotá include the botanical garden José Celestino Mutis, La Quinta de Bolivar, the national observatory, the planetarium, Maloka, the Colpatria observation point, the observation point of La Calera, the monument of the American flags, and La Candelaria (the historical district of the city). The earlier theories of the crater’s origin being a meteorite impact, volcanic cinder, or limestone sinkhole are now discredited. The most likely explanation is that it resulted from the dissolution of underground salt deposits from an anticline, resulting in an unusual kind of sinkhole. Long ago, this sacred lake was associated with Indian rituals involving gold. The name of the lake is derived from Chibcha (language of the Muisca people) gwa: mountain or gwata, gwate: high elevation, or gwatibita: high mountain peak; hence a pool at a high mountain peak. You will stop here for Lunch. Continuing the on, you will see Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira, which has one of the most content-rich tourist sightseeing with a great architectural, archaeological and cultural sites.
